Action
One of the most famous herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, Guggul possesses strong purifying and rejuvenating powers. Shuddha Guggulu helps to regulate the lipid metabolism and thereby helps in weight management. It modulates lipid profile.
It is a small tree or shrub with spinescent branches. Guggulu is excreted by the mucous membranes of the body, during the course of which it stimulates and disinfects their secretions. It also contains guggulsterones Z and E, guggulsterols I - V, two diterperoids and a terpene hydrocarbon named cembrane A. The gum resin showed different pharmacological properties, uses and clinical application.
It is astringent, expectorant, aphrodisiac, demulcent, carminative, alterative, antispasmodic and emmenagogue.
